Visitors, part the second

So I'm not really sure what it was about November that really made people want to come and visit me, but shortly after my friend left, my aunt came for a visit.

I didn't get any pictures this time, but since we're all educated people here (I hope), y'all can just read about it.

Again, I have to work during this visit, so she pretty well has to entertain herself, until I'm off work and we can meet up for supper.

The supper highlight was this Japanese place where we boiled our own food and then ate it.  It turned out to be like a three-course meal, with giant helpings each time.  First, we boiled our meat and veggies in the water and ate them.  Then, when there was a small about of meat and veggies left, they put some rice in, so we had a rice course.  Finally, we ate the remainder as a soup.  We were very full at the end  :)

I took Friday off of work so we could spend more time together and do some touristy stuff.  Funny story here.  Previously, my friend reeeeeally wanted  tempura, but we never found a good place for it.  Well, on this Friday my aunt and I wanted lunch and we stood and looked around and suddenly saw a tempura place!  So we got some  :)  I was amused b/c it always happens that you find stuff once you've stopped looking for it...

So we went out to Nara and saw some beautiful scenery on the way.  Seriously, it was almost country, and pretty flat (except for the mountains in the background).  Very lovely.

For anyone who doesn't know very much about Nara, it's an ancient capital of Japan w/ lots of temples and historical buildings, etc.  It's also famous for it's giant herd of deer, which are more or less tame and let you pet them.

As it was a a bit on the chilly side, we didn't do loads of touristy things, but we did see Todaiji Temple.  This temple was HUGE.  Seriously, it was super massive.  I didn't think a wooden building could feel so solid-like more solid than some of the big stone fortresses I've seen.  It used to be even bigger.  Inside it was a bit drafty and barn-like, but it looks totally awesome from the outside.  There's also a giant statue of the Buddha inside, which my was so big that my aunt didn't even notice it at first.
